Founder Story
When I founded GasKnight in Chicago in 2018, I wasn't trying to build just another gas detector company. I was aiming to raise the standard for home gas safety in America.
As I looked around the residential safety market, I saw incredible advances almost everywhere. Smoke alarms became standard. Carbon monoxide alarms soon followed. Smart homes were becoming more intelligent, more connected, and more beautifully designed than ever before.
Yet home gas safety had fallen far behind.
Roughly 60% of American households rely on natural gas for at least one aspect of daily life, yet residential gas detection remained surprisingly uncommon. And, well, let's just say that most gas detectors that did exist... left something to the imagination.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm detail-oriented. Whether it's engineering, product design, or the customer experience, I've always believed details matter. So when I looked at the residential gas detection market, I naturally approached designing a better gas detector with that same attention to detail.
I've also always believed that good things take time. I've never been interested in building the cheapest gas detector or rushing a product to market. I'd rather spend the extra time getting the details right and building a better product. That’s why I’ve spent the past several years working to develop a fully battery-operated, UL certified, residential gas detector with cutting edge sensing technology and a clean, modern design.
Ultimately, I believed homeowners deserved better. I believed they should never have to choose between dependable gas protection on one hand and a sleek, modern aesthetic on the other. So instead of accepting the way things had always been done, I decided to rethink the category from the ground up.
That's how GasKnight began.
Although our work is far from finished, our mission remains unchanged: to raise the standard for home gas safety in America.
