After receiving the unit I tested it on a propane heater that I use a lot and it proved to work very well now, I wouldn't be without it.

This sniffer works fantastic

We liked this detector for its ability to detect small leaks. We have propane appliances so we sometimes worry that coupler joints don't quite seal when replacing a tank. This detector did an excellent job in finding any leaks so that we could replace leaky hoses or valves . We sleep better knowing this GasKnight detector has our safety covered!!!

For weeks I had been smelling something reminiscent of natural gas but talked myself into believing it was sewer gas, but no one else in the house complained. I had familiarity with this type gas detector product and had used one like this, I finally decided to commit to getting one and started the search, and found the price range between $30 and $300 for the competition. Saw the video link of this product and it lead me to believe it was sensitive enough to pinpoint the leak, If I had one at all. Well needless to say, I had become accustomed to the NG smell, because this unit picked up high concentrations almost immediately. The instructions say to turn the unit on and allow it to warm up for a minute, the alarm will be sounding during this warm-up period. After 10 min of non-stop alarm, I thought the unit was malfunctioning till I did a sanity check and took the unit outside, where the alarm stopped almost immediately, and the sensitivity adjustment worked as advertised. Realizing the danger I might be in, I Immediately aired out the basement and first floor. After 10 min of ventilation, I found the alarm was sounding at the top of the basement stairs, so determined that the leak must be down there. I had fans pointing to the ceiling joists in the basement where the gas was collecting (NG is lighter than air) to dissipate the concentration so that I could set the sensitivity low enough where I could start my search without it picking up low concentration residual gas and set the alarm off. After 5 minutes of "sniffing" with this unit, finally found the leak, a loose union, it was so loose I turned it with my hand and heard an audible hiss sound as gas escaped. This could have ended very badly. I now think a unit like this is an essential tool to have in the home, and it won't break the bank account to own it. You need to be able to troubleshoot your way through a situation like I had, because I was almost ready to dismiss the constant alarm upon startup as a factory defect. Just use common sense ! Highly recommend this unit.

Seems to detect gas leaks well.
Adjustable sensitivity meter and alarm increases in intensity dependant on gas levels. Glad I bought a U.SA. made device which seems very good quality and reasonable price. Batteries included a bonus. Simple to use.

This worked great! I kept smelling gas near my furnace, and it would build up in my utility closet, but was so slow it would take several days. I thought - am I crazy here? Bought the sniffer to be sure. Sure enough, this sniffer identified all three points of the leak. I called the gas company and they came and fixed it - and it was all three points this had located - very pleased.

This detected a gas leak easily. My nose first detected a leak and I have bought a Kidde Nighthawk detector from a local home improvement store and it detected nothing. I thought it must be something else since the Kidde Nighthawk indicated nothing and finally bought this unit which confirmed what my nose alerted to me. Gas leak was as pipe was coming into the wall - Plumber found it. It is going to be hard to locate the exact spot of the leak with this but at least you know it is reliable and accurate.

Simple effective product.

This was super easy to set up. I just popped in the batteries that came with it and it worked.

It is a simple enough device with no bells or whistles. I used it to check my valves and heaters and it seemed to work. I had to redo one valve and it identified a leak. It definitely gets loud enough and seems sensitive enough.
The one negative I found since I use this randomly is the directions are simple enough they should have a sticker on the back with them. I have to keep the manual with it so I can remember how to set it up.
Other then the setup directions I found it simple enough to use and a simple machine. I did not use a star in the simple to install category as it isn’t an installable product.

The sniffer was great. helped to find a small leak in the propane line.

Although I bough this for home use, I am very familiar with gas sniffers in my career. This unit works as well as units that cost far more. The problem with most units is caused by “driftâ€. This is where it won’t stay in adjustment . This one has very little drift. Easy enough for most anyone to use with a little practice.

Instructions are very easy to understand, product very easy to use. Have used it near my gas fireplace, and stove. No gas leaking in my 20 year old home. The detection dial is very sensitive, be sure to fine adjust before using near appliance. Kept the original packaging to store device when not using. The battery door was a design fumble. It uses a set screw to keep it closed.

Finally had a chance to test for a leak. Appears to be very sensitive and even after clearing the room it was still setting off the alarm. I recommend you plug in a head set for the startup as the alarm during the startup is loud

I picked up this GasKnight Pro leak detector for some additional peace of mind when working with our older gas fireplace that's had some seal issues. I suspected the leak area was in a difficult to reach location, as the soapy water test wasn't triggering anywhere I could get it. Thanks to the low profile and flexible neck on this leak sniffer, I located the leak at a joint that the soapy water didn't reach. Thanks to this tool, I now have confidence than when I break open that joint and then re-seal it I will be able to test it immediately to verify that the connection is correctly sealed. I tested the sensitivity of this leak detector using my gas grill's propane canister and it really is as sensitive as I'd hoped, so that's another confidence boost. The instructions were clear, batteries were provided, and the tool feels like it's made of quality materials and to a high standard. I'm very pleased.

Works as advertised. If all you want to do is check your propane tank for the barbecue for leaks, or propane canister for your camping stove, the soap bubble method is simple, cheap and effective.

The first time I tried the detector, it found a leak of a hose going to one of the propane tanks at the front of our travel trailer. The device seems easy to use. Be sure to follow the directions to calibrate it correctly. The mobility of the device will come in handy as I have two 30-gallon propane tanks on the RV, another 20-pound tank and a cook stove with butane bottles.

This device happened to arrive the same day as my gas-fitter came to replace our hot water heater. He pronounced it “junk†when he first saw it, because on power-up it emitted a continuous alarm regardless of the sensitivity setting. BUT he changed his mind when we realized that the device is designed to do that as part of its calibration procedure so that you don’t just click it on and expect a reading. I found that it is very sensitive to gas molecules in the atmosphere—for example, walking into my closed garage it quickly detected an elevated level of hydrocarbons. It took me a moment to realize our snowblower is stored there and the device was catching whiffs of gasoline. Opening the door swept everything out and the device quickly calmed down. You have to unscrew the battery compartment door to install or replace batteries, which is a minor installation inconvenience but also an important safety feature to prevent the device from emitting a spark, however unlikely that may be. This is a useful instrument for any homedweller who has equipment or appliances that use volatile fuels; which would be most homedwellers.

Looks good but didnt test it yet

The unit needs to calibrate, make sure you read the directions prior to using it. Once calibrated, I was able to identify a leak on a DIY project that I did. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to double check their gas lines.

This has zero accuracy. Goes up and down and alarm goes off matter what. I followed the instructions each time. Sending it back. Hard to believe these reviews on here are real.

After having a natural gas leak last winter, I know how important it is to get gas leaks or possible gas leaks checked out ASAP. I saw this and wanted it for my home. I took it around my house and nothing was detected. So I took it to an old house we own and it detected gas. So I got it checked out by a professional & there was a gas leak. So I am thrilled with this item! I recommend everyone own one of these as it could help save your life.

We already had two plug-in GasKnight leak detectors, and thought that having an additional portable detector would be useful. We have propane heat, and also a propane fueled cooktop in our kitchen. Upon receiving our new GasKnight Pro, we immediately found a small leak in our kitchen at the gas connection to our cook top and our propane line. This was inside a cabinet, and was not picked up by the plug-in detector that was several feet away. We also use it to check for leaks outside at our propane tank, and at our furnace, which is in our attic. This is a very useful device to check for leaks, and is also easy to use.

This is a must it you have gas in your home.. Nice way to verify if there is a leak or not.. Set up it easy. Using it was just was easy.

This detector is super simple to use. Put the sensitivity dial somewhere in the middle. Power on the device and let it warm up. While doing this it emits the alarm. I found the alarm annoying and put in a pair of ear buds. Used this way, holding the ear bud I found I could still hear the alarm. After about a minute if you still have a solid alarm you can dial down the sensitivity until you just hear a few clicks per second. Once there you can just start moving the sensor around.
I have a high efficiency on demand gas water heater and this was still able to detect the minute amount of combustible gas from the water heater's exhaust. This confirmed my suspicion that my water heater may not be combusting all of the gas being fed into it. Occasionally I would smell a hint of the mercaptan that they put into the natural gas to make it smell. This device confirmed my suspicion.
I tried it on my gas stove by turning on a burner for a second without lighting it. As the gas dissipated I could basically tell how far out from the burner just this small amount of gas had dissipated by how intense the clicks/alarm sound was with this device. Having a few natural gas and propane appliances in my house this is a great tool to have around for safety. It won't tell you parts per million or anything but it tells you enough to know when to call in the professionals.

I have a gas-fired furnace and stove. I also have Parkinson's which has taken away my sense of smell. I couldn't smell the smallest natural gas leak if I was in the same room with it. I have relied on GasKnight detectors for some time. I am already reasonably competent with tools and believe I can fix small mechanical failures. The new GasKnoght has the portability that allows one to sniff out exactly where a leak is occurring just like the tech who cones from the gas company. I must have the detection devices. If you have read this far, you must have similar interests. If you are also mechanically inclined, this device is a welcome addition to your tools. And if you don't already have a fixed placed detector but can smell, this would serve you too. It's something I need, even if I never need to use it.

I have two wall mounted Gas Knight detectors in my house. I purchased them right after having a major gas leak. I purchased the hand held detector for convenience in my home and for use in my children’s homes. So far. So good. I guess I won’t really know until there is gas to be detected.

This detector is a solid piece of equipment. I like that it's sensitivity is easily adjustable.
Well worth the investment.

I purchased the GasKnight Pro because I already own the GasKnight Gas Detector plugged in our kitchen for some time now. The GasKnight Pro is a great device to have because it will detect if there are any gas leaks in tight areas behind the stove, in the stove or under the stove. I tested the GasKnight Pro today and discovered that I do have a very minor gas leak behind the stove from the flexible gas supply line which will be replaced. I can honestly say that the GasKnight Pro is very easy to use, complete with instructions and the price was very well worth it. If you are concerned about safety and you have natural gas appliances in your home you can't go wrong with this affordable product.
Thank you GasKnight

We thought we might have a small gas leak near our kitchen. We got the GasKnight Pro and it helped identify the potential problem. It was easy to use and worked right out of the box. Highly recommend. Very happy with the purchase.

It worked to find a small leak on my old propane regulator and I felt secure installing a new one using this to check it. Also I found being able to control the sensitivity so easily with a dial, and being able to silence the audible sound/alarm with headphones was a huge plus for me. I’ve only used to detect propane so far so can’t comment on other gas like natural, Etc. Very happy with this!

This product really is extremely sensitive. It correctly identified the natural gas leak coming from a pipe connection in my furnace room. The device looks nice too. Would recommend without a doubt.
